“Motherhood is the greatest privilege in life”
(Mary R Cocker)

When I look back on my past I don’t see structured and steady stages of my life. I see many lives lived as a different person. I was still myself, but always in a new and improved version, as life went on. I’ve been a good, sweet and well behaved little girl. A role model and a rebel adolescent, a young woman who didn’t know what to wish for. An awful student and, at times, an excellent one. An actress, a dreamer, an honest person, a hard worker. A freak, a hopeless romantic, a bride, a wife and finally a mother. I made decisions not knowing what the future had in store for me. I took risks, but I don’t regret anything because I always followed my heart and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I don’t know what’s going to happen next, but that’s what makes life worth living, isn’t it. Tomorrow is uncertain, that’s why I’ve learned to live in the moment and enjoy the present. I’ve learned to take in and appreciate everything coming my way and seize the blessings that will remain forever in my heart. I chose all of the lives I lived so far. Except the one I’m living now. I wanted it so desperately all along, but I didn’t choose it. Yes. My current life chose me. Being a mother is a wonderful gift. It’s a struggle, it’s hard work, it’s sacrifice, it’s patience. But above all it’s unconditional love, pride, happiness and pure joy. Happy Mother’s Day to all the strong and incredible mothers out there. Happy Mother’s Day to the women who wished to have children, but weren’t granted the amazing gift of motherhood. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms to be. Happy Mother’s Day to the less than perfect, disorganized mother that I am, while I’m facing the hardest, most challenging job that never ends. Happy Mother’s Day to my mother that I left behind, to follow my heart, seven years ago. My mother, whom I love dearly and whose heart I broke a few times and who’s choices I judged more than I’d like to admit. Thank you for teaching me, so strictly, how to be the decent person I was always meant to be. I understood your ways only later on in life but rest assured that your guidance has now become my most precious treasure. Happy Mother’s Day, mom. I wish I could hug you tight and tell you how much I love you.

Happy Mother’s Day,

Alessandra
